Starmer held negotiations with Trump after meeting with Zelensky.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky advises him to restore relations with U.S. President Donald Trump. According to him, without American security guarantees, long-term peace is impossible.
'The Prime Minister's priority is to do everything possible to protect Ukraine. This means that the U.S. must be involved. You need to fix these relations and return to the agreement on mineral resources,' noted one British official.
Starmer also held negotiations with Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. He urged the American and Ukrainian leaders to finalize an agreement that would allow the U.S. to acquire a share of Ukraine's mineral wealth.
Macron also stated the need for U.S. assistance to ensure the security of Ukraine, as creating a standing army will take a long time. He also emphasized the importance of the upcoming EU summit in seeking funding for building European defense.
The Financial Times positively assessed Starmer's negotiations with Trump, which took place after misunderstandings between the American and Ukrainian presidents. British officials believe that their efforts were not in vain.
It was also announced that the UK will provide Ukraine with a loan of 2.6 billion pounds to strengthen its defense capabilities.
