The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, spoke about the reasons for the increase in taxes in the country and the timing of its consideration.

According to Stefanchuk, this decision is due to an increased burden on the state budget due to the expansion of the front and the increase in the number of mobilized Ukrainians.

The Verkhovna Rada plans to consider the issue of raising tax rates in September.

"We work for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And we see that the front is expanding, the number of mobilized is increasing. This is elementary mathematics," said the Chairman of the VR.

One of the reasons for the tax increase is the growth of defense spending, which is funded from the state budget.

The front is expanding, which requires more military resources and funding.

"Possibly, starting from September, we will begin to talk about raising taxes, because there is a need to pay salaries to our military," stressed the Chairman of the VR.

Deputies are considering various options for raising taxes, but the second option is fairer.

  • increase in taxes for specific industries or sectors
  • general increase in taxes for all categories of the population

The Chairman of the VR believes that a minimal increase in rates in a broad tax base is the better option.

"We must take taxes from a broad tax base and make minimal increases. Such taxes are the value-added tax or the military levy," said the Chairman of the VR.

It was previously reported that the tax office would have access to the bank accounts of Ukrainians abroad.
