University lecturers will have their salaries increased by 50%: details of the budget project.
According to inkorr.com: The draft State Budget for 2026 provides for a gradual increase in salaries by 50% for scientific and teaching staff of higher education institutions in state and communal ownership. This
was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Funding in Education
According to Stefanchuk, education is not an expense but an investment in the future of the state. The budget allocates 53 billion hryvnias for raising teachers' salaries in schools, but higher educational institutions also need support.
However, and lecturers of higher education institutions (HEIs) still remain without changes in their salary.
'Universities form the intellectual foundation of the nation, preparing doctors, military personnel, scientists who support the economy, medicine, science, and defense,' emphasized the speaker.
He also emphasized that without adequate salaries, Ukraine may lose professional personnel and competitiveness in higher education.
Stefanchuk noted that strong universities are the foundation of a strong state. This proposal aims to stop the outflow of specialists and enhance the status of the teaching profession.
For Ukrainian educators and parents with student children, this is an important signal of support for higher education from the state. However, the implementation of this initiative will depend on the final approval of the budget.
Earlier, it was reported that 39% less than the average salary.
Thus, the planned salary increase for lecturers of higher education institutions becomes an important step towards improving working conditions in the education sector. This may help maintain the quality of education and avoid a brain drain abroad, which is a pressing issue for Ukraine in the face of modern challenges.
