Heating System Emergencies in Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: Insurance companies in Kyiv have paid out more than 6.1 million hryvnias for 23 closed claims related to heating system accidents. Breakdown of Insurance Events
The vast majority of incidents—75 out of 86—occurred within Kyiv. These include:
- 70 claims filed under the risk category 'damage from technical water'
- 16 claims filed under 'civil liability'
According to Anna Lavrenyuk, the most common cause is a pipe burst inside residents' apartments.
Notable high-value payouts in Kyiv include:
- Nearly 887,000 hryvnias for an accident on Darwin Street.
- Over 1 million hryvnias across 4 cases on Mechnikov Street.
- More than 1.68 million hryvnias for 3 claims on Andriy Verkhohlyad Street.
- Over 137,000 hryvnias paid for 2 cases in Brovary.
The large sums paid out by insurers highlight serious flaws in Kyiv's heating infrastructure, which demand urgent attention. The surge in winter accidents likely stems from aging systems and inadequate maintenance. Local authorities and responsible agencies must act to improve heating networks, reducing both risks for residents and financial burdens on insurance companies.
