Eggs will rise in price by 15% in 2026: experts named the reasons

According to ТСН: Before Christmas, prices for chicken eggs in Ukraine are rising again. Experts are confident that this trend will not only continue but will also intensify at the beginning of 2026, so Ukrainians should prepare for a record increase in one of the main food products.

The return to last year's prices is highly unlikely, emphasized economist Volodymyr Chizh.

According to the State Statistics Service, in January 2025, the average price for a dozen chicken eggs was 49.39 UAH, but such prices are not expected on store shelves in the new year.

Price increase - what is happening

The expert predicts that at the beginning of 2026, eggs could rise in price by another 10-15%. This is related to the high sensitivity of the product to changes in producers' costs.

“Eggs are one of the most volatile categories of everyday products. If the conditions for keeping birds become more complicated or the cost price rises, the price reacts instantly,” said Chizh.

Why eggs are getting more expensive

The main reasons for the price increase, the expert names seasonality and the overall increase in production costs. In the cold season, the laying rate of birds decreases, which limits supply and pushes prices up.

In addition, in 2025 producers incurred additional costs due to:

  • the increase in feed prices,
  • the increase in electricity prices,
  • more expensive logistics,
  • the impact of overall inflation.

Products that may become cheaper before the holidays

Not all food products show the same dynamics. The chairman of the supervisory board of PJSC “Dairy Alliance” Serhii Vovchenko reported that despite interruptions in electricity supply, butter will not rise in price.

According to Vovchenko, ahead of the holidays, prices for butter may even decrease due to promotional offers in retail chains.

“Virtually all enterprises have generation or cogeneration to accept and cool milk. There are no grounds for price increases,” explained Vovchenko.

Therefore, while Ukrainians can expect discounts on some dairy products, eggs remain among the goods that respond quickly to seasonal and economic changes. In January 2026, this will be particularly noticeable, and consumers should be prepared for new price realities in the market.
