Priest in Volyn detained for a $10,000 bribe for a fictitious deferral.
According to inkorr.com: In the Volyn region, law enforcement authorities detained a priest for demanding a bribe of $10,000 for obtaining a rank and a deferral from military service. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Volyn region.
Incident Details
The investigation established that a 45-year-old head of a temple in the Volodymyr region offered a conscript a bribe of $10,000 to become a clergyman. He promised that this would allegedly provide a 'spiritual' deferment from service and reservation. In his promises, he also assured that he would help resolve this issue with local officials.
Legal Consequences
Law enforcement officials recorded his criminal activity, and on September 17, he was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence). This article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a period of 3 to 8 years and confiscation of property.
The court decided to apply a preventive measure in the form of night house arrest for the priest. The investigation was conducted by the GUNP investigators with the support of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv and under the supervision of the specialized prosecutor's office in the sphere of defense of the Western region. Law enforcement emphasizes that such schemes not only violate the law but also harm the country's defense capability.
This case highlights serious problems arising in society during wartime, where some individuals try to exploit the situation for personal gain. Law enforcement continues to work on identifying and stopping such criminal schemes, as their existence threatens not only legality but also state security.
