Sweden's Meteor Missiles Now Available for Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine has been authorized to deploy Swedish-supplied Meteor missiles against aircraft located within Russian territory. Sweden's Defense Minister confirmed that Kyiv holds the right to use these weapons, which are designed for launch from Gripen fighter jets. The Meteor missile boasts a stated range exceeding 120 kilometers, with a maximum engagement distance of up to 200 kilometers. This update was shared in an operational briefing from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 4:00 PM on July 9, 2026. The decision marks a significant shift in military support, as Sweden continues to bolster Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
Current Frontline Developments
Unfortunately, today several settlements in the Sumy region have come under attack, including:
- Volfyne
- Sopych
- Bachivsk
- Korenok
- Ryzhevka
- Yastrubshchyna
- Ulanove
- Hirky
- Potapivka
In the Chernihiv region, the settlement of Buchky has also been hit. Occupying forces launched 11 assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions along the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk axes, signaling an escalation on these fronts. Additionally, on the Southern Slobozhansky axis, invaders attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses seven times. In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy carried out two attacks targeting the settlement of Kurylivka. On the Lyman front, Ukrainian defenders repelled eight enemy attempts to advance, while in the Kostiantynivka sector, our troops fought off 16 assaults. Since the start of the day, occupiers have tried seven times to push back Ukrainian forces on the Pokrovsk axis.
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson stated that enabling Ukraine to use Meteor missiles could significantly alter the regional balance of power.
Acquiring Meteor missiles marks a pivotal step for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, as these weapons allow military forces to conduct long-range strikes, enhancing operational effectiveness.
