Switzerland Ready to Send Peacekeepers to Ukraine: Main Condition.
According to ТСН: Switzerland may send its peacekeepers to Ukraine if the UN Security Council or OSCE provides the appropriate mandate.
This was stated by the Swiss Ambassador to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, Felix Baumann, in an interview.
“The legal situation is quite clear: Switzerland can send military personnel for a peacekeeping operation if there is a mandate from the UN Security Council or OSCE. In practice, this means that both Ukraine and Russia must agree to such an operation. However, Switzerland cannot participate in any coercive peace mechanisms without a mandate from the UN Security Council or OSCE. Ultimately, the Swiss government and parliament will make the decision to send a military contingent for a peacekeeping mission,” he said.
Peacekeepers and Security Guarantees
The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, noted that upon receiving security guarantees from the USA, Western peacekeepers may use force against Russian troops in case of a ceasefire violation in Ukraine.
Lithuania's Position
It was also reported that Vilnius is ready to provide troops and training resources for joint allied forces. The Lithuanian president emphasized that the question of peace in Ukraine cannot be resolved without Ukraine.
These statements indicate a growing willingness of Western countries to take active measures in support of Ukraine. The situation surrounding the peacekeeping mission requires careful organization and coordination among all parties, including Ukraine and Russia, to ensure the proper status and functioning of peacekeepers. It is also important that military initiatives be supported by a clear mandate from international organizations, highlighting the need for international cooperation in resolving the conflict. The prospects for the peacekeeping mission remain in question until consensus is reached among key players in the region.
