U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed a conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which was meant to reduce tensions between the countries that have arisen due to the tariff war. China will impose tariffs on U.S. imports in response to Trump's tariffs.
The conversation between Xi and Trump is crucial for a potential easing or postponement of tariffs. The presidents of China and the U.S. have not yet found time to talk.
China is trying to entice Trump to negotiate to avoid a tariff war. The White House is in no hurry to respond to the tariffs and is trying to build resilient relations with China.
The International Monetary Fund calls on all parties to find constructive ways to resolve differences and promote trade.
China's tariffs on U.S. imports amount to about 20 billion dollars a year, which is insignificant compared to 450 billion dollars on Chinese goods with Trump's tariffs. Western experts believe that this step by China is moderate and minor.
Trump also postponed the implementation of tariffs on Mexico and Canada for 30 days after reaching an agreement with these countries on border protection and crime fighting. The U.S. president emphasized that the future targets of his tariffs could be EU countries.
