Summer Tire Braking Performance: Top Models on Wet and Dry Roads Revealed.
Summer Tire Testing at Spain's Hakka Ring Track
According to Novyny.live: Auto Club Europa experts conducted a comprehensive test of summer tires in size 225/40 R18 XL at Spain's Hakka Ring circuit, uncovering significant performance gaps between models. The evaluation assessed several popular tire models on multiple criteria, including overall performance, braking on both dry and wet asphalt, and the balance between cost and safety. Independent tire tests like this are crucial for drivers, as braking distance can be the difference between a near-miss and a collision.
Test Results and Rankings
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S emerged as the overall leader, scoring 141 points with a price around $500. Close behind in second place was the Continental Sport Contact 7, achieving 140 points for approximately $420. Third place went to the Bridgestone Potenza Sport Evo, which scored 138 points at a price point similar to the Continental. These top three models delivered consistently high results across the various testing categories, confirming their quality.
Some notable underperformers included the Falken Azenis FK520, which scored 130 points at $350, and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport, scoring 129 points for about $480. These results highlight that not every tire model delivers the expected performance for its price tag, making independent testing data invaluable.
Braking efficiency was a critical focus of the tests. The Bridgestone Potenza Sport Evo posted the best result on dry asphalt, coming to a stop in just 32.85 meters. Conversely, the Continental Sport Contact 7 excelled on wet roads, bringing a VW Golf 8 GTI to a halt from 80 km/h in 24.51 meters. The Nexen N'Fera Sport also performed well in wet conditions, stopping within 28.34 meters, demonstrating its capability in challenging weather.
The balance of cost and safety was another key consideration. While the Linglong Sport Master is priced around $260, it did not rank among the leaders, suggesting that tire quality often correlates with price. The Auto Club Europa tests underscore the importance of selecting quality tires for driver safety and vehicle performance, emphasizing that investing in reliable tires can significantly impact on-road effectiveness.
These summer tire test results are essential for car owners aiming to ensure their safety and driving comfort. Choosing high-quality tires can substantially reduce risks associated with motoring, particularly in adverse weather conditions. In a market flooded with diverse tire models, the findings from such rigorous tests provide consumers with key data to make an informed and safe purchasing decision.
