A New Book About the Female Body: Why Do We Know So Little About Ourselves.
According to The Sun: The female body truly deserves attention. From youth to maturity, it undergoes many changes. Journalist Polly Vernon, in collaboration with medical experts, has created an encyclopedia of female biology that covers both basic and interesting aspects.
“Female bodies were excluded from clinical trials in the US from 1977 to 1993,” explains Polly. “For years, we were considered smaller, strange versions of men.”
This exclusion has affected the diagnosis and treatment of women's health issues. However, the situation is gradually changing. For example, an at-home cervical cancer test will soon be available through the National Health Service of the UK, and for the first time in history, the number of female doctors exceeds that of male doctors.
The Pain Game
Pain during menstruation, childbirth, and endometriosis are well-known issues since childhood. But often, women endure pain without expressing complaints. Pannika Horne, who heads the Center for Reproductive Health at the University of Edinburgh, emphasizes: “Every aspect of your biological existence can be a source of pain.” Women demonstrate courage in dealing with pain, but it is important not to be ashamed to ask for relief.
Blame It on Hormones
We often explain mood swings with the phrase “hormonal fluctuations”. However, it is worth noting that there are over 50 types of hormones. Deviations in hormone levels can significantly affect emotional states, behavior, and the risk of damage.
The news highlights the importance of studying and supporting women's health. Certain shifts in the medical field are enabling better identification and treatment of issues related to female biology. It emphasizes the importance of open communication about pain and recognizing problems associated with hormonal background.Read also
