Death of Argentine Executive Due to Fall During Hike

According to The Sun: The head of the Argentine technology company, Matias Augusto Travizano, tragically died during a hike on Mount Shasta in California.

The 45-year-old entrepreneur fell while descending from a peak at an elevation of 14,162 feet on September 12. He was traveling with two strangers and chose the "non-technical" Clear Creek trail.

However, he deviated from the standard route and found himself in a dangerous area on the Wintoon Glacier at an altitude of 13,500 feet.

Together with one of the strangers, they attempted to descend a slippery path, but Travizano lost control and fell 300 feet, hitting the rocks.

Witnesses reported this horrific event to the local sheriff.

Travizano was still alive after the fall but lost consciousness for about 10 minutes while another climber tried to reach him.

Later, he regained consciousness and tried to move further, leading to another fall from the other edge.

His body was later found at the bottom of the glacier by a California Highway Patrol helicopter team.

“Although the Clear Creek route is considered one of the 'safer' paths to the mountain, climbers can get confused in low-visibility conditions, especially when descending from a flat summit. Stepping off the route, these climbers often end up in more dangerous zones, where injuries become more likely,” said the sheriff's office.

The death of Matias Travizano evoked a wave of sympathy. One of his students noted that he was “a very warm, wonderful family man and extremely cheerful.”

Matias, a physics graduate, founded his company in San Francisco and was appointed advisor to the Argentine government by President Javier Milei in 2024.

He participated in organizing Milei's first tour of Silicon Valley, where he was photographed alongside the president and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Getty Matias Travizano was a respected leader and innovator in the technology field, and his tragic death left a deep mark on the hearts of colleagues and friends. This event serves as a reminder of the risks faced by climbers and underscores the importance of adhering to safe routes while engaging in mountain recreation.
