Details of the phone conversation between the USA and Europe

President of Finland Alexander Stubb talked about the phone conversation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio with European colleagues that took place on August 25. According to Stubb, security issues for Ukraine and the role of the United States in this context were discussed, reported FREEДОМ.

Negotiation Situation

Stubb also added that during his meeting with US President Donald Trump last week, he tried to explain to the American leader that Vladimir Putin has no intention of negotiating with the President of Ukraine.

“On Monday we received confirmation of this from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who questioned the constitutional status of Zelensky as the leader of Ukraine. I constantly try to convey to [President] Trump that this is typical Russian delay tactics, and they are very skilled at it. Now it's just a matter of time when President Trump will react to this. Perhaps the reaction will be related to military support for Ukraine and sanctions against countries that do business with Russia. It is still too early to say what exactly. But I hope that President Trump's patience will soon run out,” said Alexander Stubb.

Public pressure on Trump

Political scientist Alexander Filippenko noted that Donald Trump is disappointed with Putin's behavior and wants the war to end. At the same time, American society is putting pressure on the president, forcing him to respond to negative attitudes towards Russia in the USA.

In the context of growing anxiety among European allies, such a situation presents serious challenges to the US administration. It is observed that US leadership is moving towards more active steps to support Ukraine in response to Russia's actions and its tactics of delaying negotiations.
