Trump may focus on Ukraine: what to expect after peace in Gaza.
According to inkorr.com: After the fighting in Gaza concludes, Donald Trump may redirect his diplomatic attention to the war in Ukraine. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the American president achieved an important foreign policy victory by mediating the release of hostages and brokering a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas.
EU Expectations Regarding Trump
European diplomats hope that Trump will try to achieve similar successes in relations with Russia, as the Kremlin is the main barrier to peace in Europe. However, U.S. and EU officials warn that the situations in Gaza and Ukraine cannot be compared — Israel has significant military capabilities, while Russia possesses a nuclear arsenal and continues the war with no signs of concessions.
Trump's Success with Netanyahu
According to WSJ, Trump forced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept a 20-point American peace plan and publicly apologize to the leader of Qatar. Meanwhile, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey threatened Hamas with diplomatic consequences if the agreement was not signed. This joint pressure was a key factor in achieving a ceasefire.
Former U.S. National Security Council official Fred Fleitz believes that “success in Gaza gave Trump significant leverage to address other global conflicts – he has proven that he can be an effective peacemaker.”
European experts believe that the most important lesson Trump learned from the Middle Eastern agreements is the word “pressure.” Observers note that this method Washington may soon apply to Moscow.
Currently, the White House is not taking direct action, but Ukraine’s allies believe that after the diplomatic breakthrough in Gaza, Trump may again focus on efforts to bring Putin back to the negotiating table.
It was previously reported that Volodymyr Zelensky plans to meet Donald Trump on October 17 in Washington. Both leaders have already discussed key issues such as military threats and needs for new defense systems.
This situation highlights that after achieving success in Gaza, Trump intends to concentrate efforts on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The Ukrainian side hopes that cooperation with the U.S. will lead to new diplomatic efforts capable of reducing tensions and promoting peace in the region.
