Trump on the operation in Colombia: I like it.
According to ТСН: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed a positive attitude towards the possibility of conducting a military operation in Colombia.
During a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump noted that Colombia is "run by a sick man".
He also accused President Gustavo Petro of producing and selling cocaine to the U.S., noting that he "won't be doing this for very long".
When asked if this means that the U.S. might carry out an operation in Colombia, Trump replied: "I like it".
It is also worth mentioning that during the night of January 2-3 in Caracas, Venezuela, at least seven explosions were heard. By Trump's order, several military facilities in the country were targeted, including the "La Carlota" and "Fuerte Tiuna" air bases, the La Guaira seaport, the residence of the Minister of Defense, and the "El Volcan" signal antenna.
Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were detained and taken to the U.S. They were charged with narco-terrorism, cocaine importation, illegal possession of machine guns and explosives, as well as conspiracy against the U.S.
Trump also stated that the U.S. plans to monitor the situation in Venezuela until they ensure a "safe, proper, and prudent transfer of power" and remain ready for a second, more powerful attack on Venezuela, although there is currently no need for such action.
All these events indicate an escalation of the situation in Latin America, particularly in Colombia and Venezuela. Despite the criticism these plans receive, the possibility of U.S. military intervention could drastically change the geopolitical balance in the region. How events will unfold further remains to be seen, but it is already clear that tensions are rising.
