European diplomats are negotiating with the government of Donald Trump regarding future security guarantees for Ukraine. Allies agree that American troops should be part of peacekeeping forces to make such guarantees convincing, Bloomberg reports.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that American military support is necessary, as only European forces will not be able to deter Russian aggression. Washington is considering the possibility of increasing economic pressure on Russia if Vladimir Putin does not cease hostilities.

The Trump administration is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, but expects more contribution in this matter from European countries. The U.S. does not plan to directly participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine but is considering the involvement of the private sector.

European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, are considering sending European troops to Ukraine after a ceasefire is established. Experts believe that about 150,000 soldiers are needed for effective security guarantees.

U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg will soon visit Kyiv. President Trump hinted at possible cooperation with China to resolve the conflict and urged NATO allies to increase defense spending.
