What Trump said about financial aid to Ukraine
He made these remarks during a speech at the White House on July 22.
According to the U.S. president, the money allocated by his predecessor Joe Biden for arming Ukraine may have been used for unintended purposes.
'Biden handed out equipment or cash worth 350 billion, worse than equipment — cash. So one day we will want to know about this, right? But they were supposed to buy their own equipment, although, you know, I have a feeling that not every dollar went to equipment.', Trump is quoted as saying.
The president also expressed confidence in the ability of Ukrainians to defend their country independently, as NATO countries are purchasing weapons from the U.S.
Prior to this, Trump threatened Barack Obama with a criminal investigation over allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 elections. He also mentioned a possible meeting with Putin during his visit to China in the fall.
Trump's statements have sparked a flurry of discussion and called into question the effectiveness of using financial aid to Ukraine, which may have further implications for U.S.-Ukraine relations.
