US President Donald Trump stated that after taking office on January 20, he spoke with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, although there had been no reports of this conversation up to that point. He made this remark in an interview with Fox News, as reported by Ukrinform.

'Yes... I spoke with him, and I also spoke with his people', - Trump said in response to a question about whether he had spoken with the Chinese leader after the inauguration.
'We have a very good personal relationship', - added the US president.

Trump did not disclose the timing or content of the conversation.

Earlier last week, after the US imposed a 10% tariff on all Chinese imports, Beijing announced countermeasures in response. At that Time, Trump stated that he was in no rush to speak with Xi, as he wanted to avoid a new tariff war between the world's two largest economies. A meeting between the US and Chinese leaders is considered crucial for reducing tensions between the two countries.

The White House and China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs have yet to comment on the US president's statements in the Fox News interview.

Trump and Xi spoke on January 17, before the US president's inauguration, discussing issues related to TikTok, bilateral trade, and Taiwan. After this conversation, neither party reported any contacts between the two leaders.
