Why Zelensky Says Three-Way Talks with Russia Have Reached a Dead End.
The Stalemate in Trilateral Negotiations
According to Novyny.live: No date has been set for the trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pointed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as a key factor complicating the scheduling of these meetings. Because of that war, American officials remain in the United States, which directly hinders the possibility of holding the negotiations.
According to available information, Russia has expressed a willingness to hold talks in Turkey or Europe, but not on U.S. soil. Zelensky noted that
“organizing trilateral talks right now is quite difficult.”He also believes that Moscow is trying to push Washington out of the negotiation process. For its part, Russia insists on the recognition of the Donetsk region as Russian territory, a demand that further complicates the situation.
Obstacles to Restoring Dialogue
The President of Finland has stated that
“negotiations with Russia have hit a dead end.”This underscores that reviving the dialogue will likely require additional efforts from all parties involved. As a result, the outlook for trilateral negotiations remains uncertain amid the current international political climate.
The deadlock in talks between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia highlights the growing complexity of international relations in the face of active conflicts. The war in the Middle East, combined with Russia's demand to recognize its territorial claims in Donetsk, poses serious barriers to restarting meaningful discussions. It is crucial that all sides continue to seek avenues for constructive communication as global tensions rise.
