Tourists face a fine of 2,500 euros for flip-flops in a region of Italy.

In the Cinque Terre National Park in Italy, restrictions for tourists wishing to walk along the pedestrian path 'Via dell'Amore' are back in effect. This route, considered one of the most romantic in the world, was reopened after a 12-year renovation. Now officials have established several measures to control overtourism.

Since 2019, it has been prohibited to wear open or smooth shoes such as flip-flops and slippers on the pedestrian path. Violating these rules can result in fines of up to 2,500 euros. Special patrols will monitor compliance with these requirements.

Additionally, some of the most popular trails will become one-way. For example, the Monterosso-Vernazza trail will be one-way from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the busiest days of the season.

The national park authorities hope that these restrictions will improve trail usage and make them safer for visitors. It is worth noting that in Italy, since 2023, fines for not complying with tourist behavior rules have significantly increased.
