In Britain, some Ukrainian refugees may lose their jobs – The Telegraph.
According to new rules, employers in Great Britain are no longer allowed to extend contracts for Ukrainian refugees who are planning to leave the country. This may lead to job loss for tens of thousands of Ukrainians currently in Great Britain, reports The Telegraph.
This particularly concerns the 'first wave' of Ukrainians who arrived in Great Britain in early 2022. Their stay expires in March this year, and they will not be able to extend their visa under the new rules earlier than a month before its expiration.
It is worth noting that Ukrainians who arrived in Great Britain after February 24, 2022, can apply for an extension of their visa for 18 months. However, visa extension applications must be submitted no later than 28 days before the expiration of the current visa. The application review process can take up to eight weeks, during which leaving the country is prohibited.
It should also be noted that the Time spent in the country as a refugee does not count towards the 10-year period required to apply for permanent residence.
Recall that on January 16, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, arrived in Ukraine on an unannounced visit.
Additionally, Ukraine and Britain signed an agreement on a 100-year partnership aimed at strengthening security ties and cooperation between the countries. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Prime Minister of Britain, Keir Starmer, signed this historic agreement.
