A women's construction battalion has emerged in Dnipro, working on the reconstruction of a damaged residential building. The project is overseen by the Dnipro City Council.
Ivanna, a battalion member from Zaporizhzhia now living in Dnipro, shares that they are learning and practicing tile laying in one of the apartments' kitchens. Ivanna acknowledges that construction is a profession that can be performed by both women and men, and she enjoys her work.
The battalion consists of 16 women aged between 30 and 50. It was formed due to a shortage of workers in the construction sector.
This house has become the first to be fully restored after a rocket strike. Heating and water supply systems have already been restored, and partial repairs to the sewage system are also underway. Gas supply will be restored by the end of February after the main work is completed.
Members of the battalion also have the opportunity to receive educational certificates and find jobs in the city's construction companies. Some dream of starting their own businesses and will receive training on business planning and other entrepreneurial aspects. The charitable organizations 'Plisch-o-plisch' and the German fund 'Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe' provide financial support for training and equipment.
Women Show Active Interest in the Army
During the operation of recruitment centers, 8053 individuals have already joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with 20% of them being women. Women hold significant positions in various fields, including medicine and the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This indicates the active involvement of women in defending our country.
The Ukrainian army offers anyone wishing to contribute to victory the opportunity to join through the 'Diiia' app. After submitting an application, the individual will join the chosen unit and undergo basic military training under a signed contract. A military medical commission is not necessary, as fitness for service is confirmed at the application stage.
