Water Pressure Drops in Kyiv After Power Cut Hits Water Utility.
Water Supply Disruption in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: A widespread power outage at facilities operated by the Kyivvodokanal water utility on March 9 has resulted in significantly low water pressure across the Ukrainian capital. Specialists are currently working to stabilize the situation. The blackout was caused by an emergency power shutdown conducted by the company DTEK.
Residents in several districts of the capital have reported weak water pressure, including in the:
- Solomianskyi
- Sviatoshynskyi
- Holosiivskyi
- Podilskyi
“Kyivvodokanal still lacks backup power for its pumps.”
Maksym Bakhmatov, Head of the Desnianskyi District State Administration
This has created significant difficulties with water supply for residents in these areas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the situation, stating that:
“attacks will be directed, in particular, at water supply facilities.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine
Relevant services are now working to resolve the problem and restore normal water supply for Kyiv's residents. This incident highlights the critical vulnerability of Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, which has been a repeated target during the ongoing conflict.
The situation underscores the vital importance of having backup power sources for critical infrastructure like water supply systems. Given the persistent threats to the energy grid, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply has become an even more urgent issue for city authorities and relevant services. Water supply problems can severely impact the quality of life for the capital's residents, making the swift resolution of this situation a top priority for the city's leadership.
