Unlimited Fishing for 7 Invasive Species Approved in Ukraine from April 2026.
Ukraine's Updated Fishing Regulations
According to Novyny.live: Starting in April 2026, Ukraine will implement revised fishing rules that remove catch limits for seven fish species classified as invasive. At the same time, daily quotas will be introduced for other species to better manage the country's fishing activities.
The following seven fish can now be caught without any restrictions:
- Black Sea sprat
- Silverside
- Bleak
- Pumpkinseed sunfish
- Chinese sleeper (rotan)
- Amur false minnow (chebachok)
- Dwarf American catfish
This measure aims to curb the growth of invasive fish populations that threaten local aquatic ecosystems. For all other species, a daily bag limit of up to three kilograms will apply, with an allowance for one fish exceeding that weight.
Penalties for Breaking the Rules
Fines will be imposed for violations of the new regulations. Minor infractions carry penalties ranging from 34 to 170 hryvnias, while serious violations can result in fines between 340 and 680 hryvnias. In severe cases, confiscation of the catch and fishing gear may also occur.
Which fish species in Ukraine are exempt from daily catch limits:
- Black Sea sprat
- Silverside
- Bleak
- Pumpkinseed sunfish
- Chinese sleeper (rotan)
- Amur false minnow (chebachok)
