NABU prepares new loud exposures of corruption: how it will affect the independence of the bureau
The head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Semen Kryvonos, explained the strategy in case of threats to its independence. According to him, NABU will increase the number of exposures to earn the trust of the society.

In his interview with BBC Ukraine, Semen Kryvonos spoke about his plans for the future.

Work of NABU

'Plan B is to enhance efficiency and make more exposures. Then society will trust us more. And we will have support in any situation when attempts are made to destroy our independence. I believe that we will earn the trust of society and justify its expectations for justice. We still have a lot of work to do. During these events, I understood many things. We have people to expose in the field of corruption.', Kryvonos stated.

Moreover, he did not rule out possible new attempts to pressure Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies. Kryvonos is confident that such situations may continue.

'Pressure will always be present as NABU, together with SAP, investigates top corruption. Pressure can come from the authorities or oligarchic groups. We are ready for this. Organized campaigns and commissioned materials continue to appear in anonymous Telegram channels.', he emphasized.

Kryvonos noted that NABU is ready to provide any information to the temporary special commission of the Verkhovna Rada.

'The special commission in the Verkhovna Rada is investigating corruption in law enforcement agencies. This commission actively approaches us and sends requests. We are ready to provide all necessary information, attend their meetings, and clarify everything. However, I want to emphasize that NABU is effective. This should be known to the Ukrainian society.', added the director of NABU.

In early August, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed several officials following NABU's exposures, including the head of Mukachevo RDA Serhiy Haidai and the head of Rubizhne MVA Andriy Yurchenko.

Earlier, Kryvonos and the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Oleksandr Klymenko informed Zelensky about the detection of bribes by MPs and officials.

A representative of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine in an interview with BBC Ukraine shares the strategy in case of threats to its independence, explaining that the key is to increase exposures to gain the trust of society and support in any situation. The director of NABU emphasizes that pressure on anti-corruption bodies may continue, but they are ready for this and prepared to provide all necessary information.
