The New Law on NABU and SAP
On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 12414, which was signed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
After that, Ukrainians gathered in cities for two consecutive evenings for rallies against the new law, which provides for the subordination of NABU and SAP to the Office of the Prosecutor General, thus eliminating the independence of these institutions.
It should be noted that President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he will propose a counter-bill to parliament that will strengthen the law enforcement system. At the same time, this initiative was supported by NABU and SAP. The new law will aim to ensure the independence of anti-corruption institutions.
Deputies registered a bill regarding the restoration of independence for NABU and SAP after the previous law on their liquidation caused mass protests among Ukrainians. President Zelensky is preparing a new bill aimed at ensuring the independence of anti-corruption bodies.Read also
