China interested in continuing the war in Ukraine: assessment of the National Security and Defense Council

According to ТСН: Waging war may be beneficial for China, as it would result in a weak and dependent Russia, which could also lead to the exhaustion of Europe.

Expert assessment

This opinion was expressed by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. He noted that China thinks much broader in the long term than just concerning short-term benefits.

“Strategically, in a 50-year planning paradigm, China may be interested in segmenting and splitting the EU, as this allows it to pull individual European countries into its own dependency through infrastructural (and not only) investments.”

Insufficient assistance from China

It was also reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that China maintains a non-conflict rhetoric regarding Ukraine, but practically does not contribute to ending the war, despite statements of support for sovereignty.

Earlier, it was reported that China opposes the confiscation of frozen Russian assets and unilateral sanctions without a UN Security Council resolution.

Thus, China, seeking to maintain neutrality in the conflict, tries to avoid further escalation of tension, but its real actions may not correspond to public statements. This indicates a complex balance that Beijing maintains, placing strategic interests above immediate benefits.
