According to UATV: A Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber went down in a forest near the town of Svirsk in the Irkutsk region. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the crash was triggered by an engine failure. The bomber's crew managed to eject safely, resulting in no pilot casualties.
This incident marks the fourth Tu-22M3 crash in Russia over the past two years. Three of these accidents occurred in the Irkutsk region, while one took place in the Stavropol Krai. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine's defense forces have reportedly destroyed 436 Russian aircraft and 353 helicopters.
Aviation Maintenance Concerns
This event highlights ongoing issues with the technical condition and safety of Russia's military aviation, which could negatively impact the operational readiness of its air force. Given the frequency of such crashes, there may be a need for additional inspections and equipment upgrades to prevent future incidents.
