US Senator Calls on Trump to Intercept Russian Tankers: What It Means

According to ТСН: American Democratic Senator Chris Coons urged US President Donald Trump to intercept tankers of Russia's 'shadow fleet'.

In an interview with MSNBC, he emphasized that the White House administration is already using the US armed forces to intercept oil tankers of the 'shadow fleet' that support the regime in Venezuela.

Call to Action

Coons believes that similar measures should be taken regarding the fleet that finances Russia's military machine, supports the Iranian regime, and aids North Korea. The lawmaker is confident that this step would receive support in the US Congress.

'Trump would receive bipartisan support for tougher actions against Putin and to start slowing down the flow of money to the Putin's military killing machine directed against Ukraine,'

— noted Coons.

Critique of Foreign Policy

The Democrat also criticized Trump's foreign policy, highlighting that the president promised to avoid 'stupid new wars abroad'. However, according to the senator, without a clear political stance, Trump has effectively entered into confrontation with one of the strongest authoritarian regimes in the Western Hemisphere, referring to Venezuela.

Coons added that the US leader should focus on the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and other aspects of foreign policy, 'where he has not utilized the tools he has at his disposal'.

As is known, Donald Trump announced a total blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers. The president stated that he made this decision in response to the actions of the 'illegitimate regime of Nicolás Maduro'. He claims that Maduro uses oil from 'stolen fields' to finance criminal activities.

Thus, Senator Coons' calls underscore the urgent need to intensify US actions on the international stage. Given the increasing aggression from Russia and instability in regions such as Venezuela, it is crucial for the US to take effective measures to support its strategic interests and partners.
