USA not to lower new tariffs: which countries are affected by the increased tariffs.
The list of updated tariffs against countries, published by the White House, is likely to remain unchanged and not be reduced as part of ongoing negotiations. Many of the new tariffs are set by agreements.
Negotiations on reducing US tariffs
US Trade Representative Jamison Greer stated that after returning to power, US President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on dozens of countries but soon lowered them to 10% to conduct trade negotiations and enter into agreements.
Despite some reduction in rates during negotiations, Greer says the latest tariff package will remain unchanged.
'Many of them are set according to agreements. Some of these agreements are announced, some are not, and others depend on the level of trade deficit or surplus we may have with that country. These tariff rates are essentially fixed'
Recall that on July 31, the White House published new mutual tariff rates covering imports from various US partner countries to reduce the trade deficit and increase revenues.
Ad valorem rates have been announced for 67 countries, the European Union, and the Falkland Islands. They will come into effect on August 7-8 with some exceptions. Syria has the highest tariff at 41%, which has remained unchanged since April when the US president announced mutual rates on imports of goods from all countries worldwide.
As a result of negotiations on reducing US tariffs established by Donald Trump, the list of tariffs is likely to remain unchanged. Many tariffs are set by agreements between countries and depend on the level of trade balance and surplus with each of them. Despite the discussed reduction of some rates, the updated tariff package will remain at the previous level. The USA is trying to reduce the trade deficit and increase revenues through these measures.
