Democrats and some Republicans know that without military pressure on Russia it is impossible to end the war.
Despite some conflicting statements from members of the Republican Party, many of them support increasing military aid to Ukraine, said political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko.
“How to pressure Russia, the recipe is known. This was written by former national security advisors to the 45th US President Donald Trump back in May. They wrote that if Vladimir Putin refuses Trump's proposals, then it is necessary to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine,” he said.
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, along with some congressmen from the Republican Party, also supports increasing military aid to Ukraine, noted the political scientist.
“Many Republicans understand this well. Mike Pompeo adheres to the following position - before starting negotiations with Russia, the most powerful military pressure on it is needed by increasing support for Ukraine. Mike Pompeo and some congressmen representing the Republican Party support increasing military aid to Ukraine,” he said.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that work is underway on a new package of military aid to Ukraine.
“Sullivan very clearly emphasized the main things. Firstly, Ukraine does not need any peace plan, it needs support. Secondly, the US will continue supporting Ukraine, and in the coming months, while Biden remains president, new support packages for Ukraine will be agreed upon. Military pressure on Russia is the main tool for pressuring Putin and compelling him to achieve peace,” the expert noted.
He emphasized that military aid to Ukraine should be strengthened.
“The level of support that exists now is not sufficient to end the war. Ukraine’s support needs to be strengthened,” concluded Fesenko.
