Drone Strike Hits Moscow-Simferopol Train: Assistant Driver Killed, Passengers Evacuated.
Attack on Railway Infrastructure
According to Espreso.tv: In the early hours of June 8, a drone attack targeted train No. 68 traveling from Moscow to Simferopol, damaging its locomotive. The assistant driver was killed in the strike, while the train driver sustained injuries.
All passengers aboard trains within Crimea were evacuated. Buses are now transporting passengers from three trains—which departed Moscow and Saint Petersburg on June 6—to Simferopol. This incident highlights how civilian transport routes have become vulnerable in the ongoing conflict.
Air Alerts and Strikes on Key Sites
Air raid warnings were issued across occupied Crimea and Sevastopol during the night and morning of June 8. An explosion was reported near the Saki airfield at 10:29 PM on June 7, followed by another blast near the Kacha airfield at 11:01 PM. That same night, Ukrainian defense forces struck infrastructure used by occupying forces, damaging the Chongar Bridge and the Zuyivska Thermal Power Plant in Donetsk region.
This attack on railway transport underscores the escalating tensions in the region and the active combat operations continuing in Ukraine.
It also demonstrates that even civilian infrastructure can become a target in wartime. The air raid alerts in Crimea point to ongoing security threats for the local population and indicate a rising frequency of attacks on territories under occupation, potentially destabilizing the area further.
