Fake Wife’s Disability Used to Dodge Draft: Court Delivers Verdict.
Court Ruling on Draft Evasion Case
According to Novyny.live: A man from Balyasne in the Poltava region was convicted for evading military conscription by submitting a forged document claiming his wife had a disability. The Dykan District Court of Poltava Oblast issued the ruling on June 2, after the defendant had obtained a counterfeit certificate indicating a second-group disability. He used the fake paperwork to secure a deferment from mobilization.
On November 5 of last year, the individual was granted a draft deferment valid until February 2 of the current year. However, on February 9, he once again presented the fraudulent certificate, leading to an extension of the deferment until May 3. Following a review of the case, the court imposed a fine of 850 hryvnias on the defendant.
Legal Repercussions and Next Steps
Under the approved sentence, the convicted person has 30 days to appeal the court’s decision. If an appeal is filed, the Poltava Court of Appeal will hear the case.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of draft evasion in Ukraine, a pressing concern amid wartime conditions and mobilization efforts. Using counterfeit documents to obtain a deferment can carry serious legal consequences, as shown by the court’s penalty for such misconduct. This case may also influence future measures to tighten mobilization oversight and combat similar offenses.
