Colorado District Attorney Condemns Activist Judges and Policy of Shielding Illegal Immigrants
The District Attorney of Colorado, George Brauchler, criticizes activist judges and the policy of shielding illegal immigrants in his state, which, according to him, allows activist and illegal immigrant Jeanette Vizguerria to evade arrest for more than ten years, 'insisting on lawlessness.'
Colorado Law and Issues in Removing Illegal Immigrants
Colorado law prohibits local and state law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities to remove illegal immigrants. According to DA Brauchler, the policy supported by Governor Jared Polis and the democratically controlled legislature has resulted in the state 'choosing to accommodate illegal immigrants while ignoring the laws of the land.'
He asserts that such a policy has limited the ability of local and state police to detain dangerous illegal criminals.
The DA Expressed Doubts Regarding Several Decisions of Federal Judges
Challenging a federal judge's ruling in Colorado which guaranteed that Vizguerria could not be deported while her case was being heard, Brauchler believes that leftist sentiments in the state have allowed for the unchecked violation of U.S. immigration laws.
The DA understands the complexity of the situation for Vizguerria, who has created a family and settled in Colorado, but notes: 'We have to be a country and a state that adheres to the laws for which we hold each other accountable, or we will be determined by emotions and politics.'
Brauchler criticizes the decisions of federal judges who limit the actions of the Trump administration in immigration matters across the country. He points to a case where D.C. Circuit Judge James Boasberg issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport a group of suspected immigrant gang members. According to the DA, these activist judges impose temporary restraining orders so that rulings cannot be overturned in appellate court.
Conclusion
In his speeches, Brauchler emphasizes that if people disagree with U.S. immigration laws, they need to be changed, but this cannot be an excuse for violating these laws or creating barriers between local law enforcement and federal authorities.
DA Brauchler highlights that Colorado's state policy does not make us safer, does not improve our society, and does not adhere to the principle of the rule of law.
