Transition to winter time in Ukraine in 2025
On the night of October 25-26, 2025, clocks in Ukraine will be set back one hour, returning to winter time. This information was obtained from the publication 'Khvylia'.The transition to summer and winter time is practiced in more than 70 countries, including Ukraine. The European Parliament decided to abolish seasonal time changes for EU countries back in 2021, but this initiative has not yet been implemented. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed support for the idea of abandoning clock changes and establishing winter time, but the draft law is still waiting for the president's signature, so it has not come into force yet.The practice of changing clocks dates back to the 18th century and became widespread in 1908. In Ukraine, the transition to summer time was introduced in 1916-1917. Modern studies show that the effect of the transitions to winter and summer time on electricity savings is minimal — about 2%.Experts recommend the following measures to minimize discomfort from the transition to winter time:
- Adjust your sleep schedule 2-3 days before the transition;
- Provide bright light in the morning;
- Engage in light physical activity after waking up;
- Avoid intense workouts in the evening and reduce caffeine and alcohol consumption;
- Have a protein-rich breakfast and limit screen time before bed;
- Gradually return to a normal sleep schedule after the transition.
