Ukraine brings its drone defense expertise to the Middle East
According to UATV: Ukraine has sent expert teams to the Middle East to help local countries combat Iranian drones, particularly the so-called 'Shahed' models. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, three teams comprising dozens of security specialists have already departed for the region to carry out this mission. This move reflects Kyiv’s growing role as a key partner in global security efforts.
Zelenskyy noted that the United States has repeatedly asked Ukraine for its expertise in countering Shahed drones. During his diplomatic efforts, the Ukrainian president has spoken with leaders from several nations, including:
- The United Arab Emirates
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- Jordan
- Bahrain
He stressed that 'we are not at war with Iran,' but emphasized that cooperation with these countries is vital for strengthening regional security.
Zelenskyy also indicated that Ukraine expects to receive assistance in bolstering its air defense systems in exchange for its expertise.
'As for what we get in return: we will think about it and discuss it with them' – Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confirming his readiness to negotiate further collaboration.
Why this cooperation matters for regional security
This initiative underscores Ukraine’s active involvement in international efforts to counter threats from Iranian drones and highlights the importance of security partnerships with allies.
Bringing Ukrainian experts into the fight against Iranian drones could significantly enhance the defensive capabilities of Middle Eastern countries facing these threats. Cooperation with allies not only improves security in the region but also opens up new opportunities for Ukraine to receive military aid and air defense technologies.
