Ukraine's Path to EU Membership

According to Novyny.live: At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka, declared that Ukraine is demanding a clear date for accession to the European Union. He emphasized the country's commitment to completing the necessary reforms, stating that Ukraine is now in the final stage of its anti-corruption overhaul. This push for a definitive timeline comes as Ukraine continues its long-term pivot toward Western institutions.

Anti-Corruption Reform Progress

Significant progress has been made since Ukraine launched its anti-corruption reforms in 2014-2015. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has initiated 737 criminal proceedings, demonstrating an active fight against graft. Furthermore, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has brought 124 charges against 280 individuals, with courts delivering 93 verdicts concerning 130 defendants.

Taras Kachka acknowledged that hesitation persists among some of Ukraine's partners, which is precisely why the country has taken the initiative to act decisively. He stressed that Ukraine seeks membership based on merit and is prepared to fulfill all reforms required to secure its place in the EU. The ongoing anti-corruption drive, spanning several years, underscores the government's pledge to ensure transparency and accountability. A successful implementation of these reforms is seen as crucial for a positive assessment from European partners and for accelerating the integration process, marking a vital step toward national stability and development.
