Ukraine's Appeal to the UN Security Council

According to UATV: Ukraine has formally asked the Democratic Republic of the Congo to convene an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council following a series of Russian missile and drone strikes that left at least 11 people dead. The request was made on July 6, as threats to civilians in Ukraine continue to escalate. The DRC currently holds the council's rotating presidency.

During the night of July 5–6, Russia launched fresh attacks that killed a minimum of 11 individuals. These events mark another tragic chapter in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Notably, a previous assault on July 2 claimed at least 31 lives in Kyiv. In May of this year, the country recorded its highest monthly civilian death toll since the war began, with 274 fatalities. The total number of civilian casualties since the start of the conflict has now surpassed 2,000.

The Need for a Strong International Response

Andriy Sybiha, a Ukrainian representative, stressed that

“every Russian missile launched against Ukraine carries a message far beyond our borders.”

He also underscored the urgency of a robust international reaction, stating that

“belated or weak responses cannot stop terror. Only a decisive, principled, and timely response can do that.”

In this way, Ukraine is calling on the global community to take concrete action in the face of ongoing aggression.
