According to ТСН: The military of the Russian Federation forced approximately 50 civilians of Ukraine to leave the territory of the Sumy region to Russia, which is a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

According to preliminary data, on December 18, Russian military illegally detained about 50 peaceful residents of the village of Grabanivske in the Sumy region. People were held without access to communication and in inadequate conditions, and on December 20, they were forcibly transported to the Russian Federation.

International response and appeal

The Ombudsman emphasized that these actions are violations of the laws and customs of war, as well as illegal deprivation of liberty and deportation of the civilian population.

“I urgently appealed to the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation to provide information on the whereabouts of illegally deported citizens of Ukraine, to report on their conditions of detention and urgent needs, as well as to take measures for their immediate return to Ukraine,” he noted.

In addition, a similar appeal was sent to the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Ombudsman also called on the international community to assess the actions of the Russian Federation and apply all possible mechanisms of influence to stop illegal deportations.

“I urge our citizens to realize that being in a combat zone is extremely dangerous. Evacuation is a chance to save lives and health,” he emphasized.

The necessity of legislative changes

It was separately noted about the need for legislative changes regarding forced evacuation.

“It is necessary to adopt a law on forced evacuation, at least for children, from territories where there is a direct threat to their lives and freedom,” the ombudsman added.

Let us remind that it was previously reported that hostilities continue in the settlement of Grabanivske, which is located in the Sumy region. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are making maximum efforts to push the occupation forces back to Russian territory.

This situation underscores the seriousness of the accusations against the Russian Federation of human rights violations during the conflict. The international community continues to monitor developments to ensure the protection of the civilian population in combat zones.
