Ukraine offered Russia to hold a leaders' meeting.
Ukraine has proposed to Russia to hold a leaders' meeting with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump by the end of August. The reaction of the Russian side to such a proposal is currently unknown.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov announced this after a meeting of delegations on July 23.
What Ukraine proposed to Russia in negotiations
Umerov stated that Ukraine also expressed its readiness to cease fire, particularly strikes on critical and civilian infrastructure. At the same time, he did not provide information on the reaction of the Russian side to this statement.
They also discussed further exchanges of prisoners and civilians, after which Russia agreed to return people who had been held in captivity for more than three years, including young people and severely wounded Ukrainians.
More than 1200 people will participate in the humanitarian exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
The third round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia concluded on July 23 in Istanbul after a 40-minute meeting.
Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak expressed hope that Russia would return all abducted children and prisoners.
Further negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may open new opportunities for diplomatic resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and exchange of prisoners, which is undoubtedly a positive step towards reducing tensions and restoring peace in temporarily occupied territories.
