New Measures to Oversee Gambling in Ukraine

According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation, together with the Ministry of Defence, has created a new tool for automatically verifying user data. This system will cross-check information against the Register of Military Personnel and the Register of Individuals Banned from Gambling. Data exchanges will be handled through the electronic interaction platform known as 'Trembita'.

According to Nataliia Denikeieva, the system operates fully automatically, cutting through red tape and without revealing anyone's military status. The goal is to tighten control over who can access gambling services across the country.

Strengthening Gambling Oversight and Enforcement

Notably, PlayCity reported that during its first year of operation, it identified over 4,100 illegal gambling sites. Providers are now required to block such websites within 24 hours of a decision being made. For illegal gambling advertising, 16 fines have already been issued, totaling nearly 80 million Ukrainian hryvnias.

In March 2026, the Ministry of Digital Transformation prepared two draft laws aimed at regulating the gambling market. By April 2026, PlayCity had started blocking YouTube channels that promoted unlawful casino ads. These actions underscore Ukraine's active crackdown on illegal gambling operations.

This initiative by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Defence is part of broader government efforts to enhance safety and oversight in the gambling sector, especially given that access may be restricted for certain groups of the population.

Integrating new technology for automatic user data verification is expected to reduce fraud and provide stronger protections for vulnerable individuals.
