Ukraine Struck 111 Russian Military Sites in May—Moscow Lost Seven Times More Land Than It Gained.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces Keep Up the Pressure
According to UATV: Ukrainian troops are pressing their offensive inside Russia, hitting key military infrastructure. In May alone, they struck 111 enemy military and strategic targets. During the same period, Russian forces lost seven times more territory than they managed to seize—a stark reversal of recent trends.
Early in May, Ukraine’s military destroyed the 'Grushovaya' oil transshipment depot in Krasnodar Krai, showcasing the precision and intent of their operations. In April, Russian troops had advanced into roughly 28 square kilometers of Ukrainian land. But Ukraine’s defenders reclaimed 116 square kilometers that same month. Since the start of the year, Ukrainian forces have liberated over 600 square kilometers of their own territory.
Drone Warfare Proves Decisive
Ukraine’s drone units hit more than 88,000 targets in May and neutralized over 35,000 Russian soldiers. The direct and indirect economic damage inflicted on the enemy reached nearly $1.058 billion.
“Over the course of the month, deep-strike assets hit 111 enemy military-industrial complex facilities,” said Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
On June 5 and 6, Ukrainian drones also struck strategic sites in Leningrad Oblast. These attacks came just as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum wrapped up on June 6—an event where Governor Alexander Beglov pitched the city as a maritime hub and a center for drone technology.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) weighed in on the situation, noting:
“Russian forces are penetrating contact-line areas but do not control the territory in a doctrinal sense.”This observation underscores the difficulties Moscow’s troops face in holding ground they’ve taken.
All of this points to a Ukrainian strategy that is inflicting serious damage on the enemy while steadily reclaiming lost land. With operations targeting Russia’s military backbone, the battlefield balance continues to shift.
As Ukrainian forces sustain their campaign and Russian losses mount, the front remains volatile. The deliberate targeting of enemy military assets reflects Kyiv’s strategic approach—one that could reshape the conflict’s trajectory and the regional power dynamic. Notably, Russia’s inability to fully control captured areas highlights the severe challenges it now faces in combat.
