Ukrainians may have their pensions reduced: when they will have to return money to the PFU.
The Pension Fund of Ukraine may reduce pension payments if overpayment is detected. This was reported by pension expert Serhiy Korobkin for the publication "Na pensii". One of the examples was a case when a pensioner was charged back 3000 hryvnias. The man retired in 2019 and worked 10 days in April this year. The Pension Fund found an overpayment for the period from April to August, although the man actually worked only for one month.
The legislation of Ukraine provides for the possibility of recovering overpaid amounts from pensioners by decision of the Pension Fund. The deduction amount should not exceed 20% of the monthly pension amount.
"The difference in payments is due to the fact that the pension for working pensioners may differ from that of non-working pensioners," explained Korobkin.
The general minimum allowable pension size depends on the age and length of service of the person. For example, for women aged 65 and over with 30 years of service and for men with 35 years of service, the minimum pension is 40% of the minimum salary, which has been 8000 hryvnias since April. Thus, the minimum pension cannot be less than 3200 hryvnias. For non-working individuals who have reached the age of 65 and have full service, the minimum pension payment cannot be less than 3370 hryvnias. Furthermore, when the subsistence minimum rises, the pension for non-working individuals is automatically recalculated.
"It is important to note that the child allowance is set only for non-working pensioners. However, employment does not always affect the size of the pension and may depend on the type of pension and its components," the expert noted.
The expert recommends that pensioners inform the Pension Fund about employment to avoid similar situations in the future.
