Price changes for potatoes and tomatoes in the Ukrainian market
According to the monitoring of the food market in Ukraine in December 2024, significant price changes for basic vegetables were identified, namely potatoes and tomatoes. According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, prices for these products reflect the state of the agricultural sector.
In the potato market segment, there is relative price stability. According to the ministry's information, the average price for regular potatoes is 34.27 UAH per kilogram. The lowest price offered in the Metro chain is 26.40 UAH per kilogram. Young potatoes available at Auchan cost 44.40 UAH per kilogram, which is 29% higher than the base price.
However, the analysis of prices for November indicates minimal fluctuations. In that month, regular potatoes were sold for 31.67 UAH, young potatoes for 39.90 UAH, and pink potatoes for 35.17 UAH per kilogram.
The tomato market is characterized by a dynamic pricing policy. Red tomatoes are offered at a wide price range: from 79.99 UAH in Novus to 158.80 UAH in Megamarket. The average price is 118.67 UAH per kilogram. Pink tomatoes, sold exclusively at Auchan, cost 155.90 UAH per kilogram. Prices for 'plum' tomatoes fluctuate the most - from 114.50 to 186.30 UAH, with an average price of 150.40 UAH.
Comparative analysis of prices for November 2024 showed the following trends: the average price for red tomatoes increased to 105.29 UAH, for pink tomatoes to 104.62 UAH, and for 'plum' tomatoes to 118.16 UAH per kilogram.
Agricultural sector experts associate price changes with seasonal factors, logistics peculiarities, and the overall economic situation in the agricultural sector of Ukraine.
It should be noted that prices for products in Ukraine already exceed European ones.
