Ukrainians were informed about which trees are legally prohibited to plant in 2025.

As reported by 'Khvylia', this is mentioned in the material from RBC-Ukraine.

In Ukraine, an important environmental decision has been made – the planting of certain types of plants and trees that harm the local nature has been prohibited.

The reason is that these plants act like aggressors: they quickly occupy new territories, change the chemical composition of the soil, and create conditions in which local plants and animals struggle to survive.

Now the law strictly forbids the use of these species in the creation of forests or protective plantations, as they can disrupt the natural balance in nature and reduce the diversity of local plant species.

Ban on planting certain types of trees

In particular, the list of prohibited species includes:

  • Ailanthus altissima
  • Aralia mandshurica
  • Ulmus pumila
  • Gleditsia triacanthos
  • Juglans nigra
  • Quercus rubra
  • Carya ovata
  • Acer negundo
  • Olea europaea
  • Paulownia tomentosa
  • Robinia pseudoacacia
  • Prunus serotina
  • Fraxinus pennsylvanica.

The main reason for the ban is their invasiveness, which threatens the local ecosystem. The problem is that in Ukraine they have no natural enemies, which contributes to their uncontrolled spread. They change the chemical composition of the soil, suppress the growth of other plants, and displace local species.

For example, some robinia and ailanthus have a powerful root system that can damage building foundations and road surfaces. Moreover, trees like the boxelder maple and the red oak are not part of natural food chains, making them unsuitable for supporting biodiversity.

Thus, excluding these species from green plantings will help maintain ecological balance and avoid future problems.

Instead of invasive species, it is recommended to plant trees in Ukraine that are suitable for local climatic conditions and have high ecological value.

  • Oaks (except for red oaks) – long-lived and resilient trees that create a natural habitat for many animals.
  • Maples (except for boxelder) – well adapted to the climate of Ukraine, they purify the air and beautify cities and parks.
  • Ash trees (except for Pennsylvania ash) - fast-growing trees that stabilize the soil and are disease-resistant.
  • Birches - popular trees in Ukraine that improve soil quality and are used in medicine.
  • Pines - coniferous trees that release phytoncides, purifying the air and creating a healthy environment.

Planting local and resilient species will help preserve the natural balance and protect Ukrainian forests for future generations.

Earlier, it was reported whether it is possible to cut down fruit trees without permission in 2025.
