New Social Survey: 53% of Ukrainians are categorically against any territorial concessions.
According to ТСН: The majority of citizens of Ukraine (53%) uphold the position regarding the territorial integrity of the country, not supporting any concessions to the aggressor. Among the respondents, the number of those who hesitate to answer this question is increasing.
This data was presented in a new survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
Attitude Towards Territorial Losses
According to the results of the research at the beginning of 2026 (compared to October 2025), the situation looks as follows:
-
Categorically against concessions: 53% (this figure has hardly changed — was 54%).
-
Willing to accept certain losses: 33% (there is a decrease from 38%).
-
Undecided: the share has almost doubled — from 8% to 14%.
Official Recognition of Occupied Territories
When asked about the possibility of legal recognition of certain territories as part of the Russian Federation, the majority of Ukrainians (58%) respond negatively. The number of those who are willing to accept such a scenario remains stable — 25%.
Social scientists note that the proportion of resolved opponents to this idea has decreased (from 67% to 58%). This decrease is not related to a shift to the camp of supporters of concessions, but is a consequence of increased uncertainty (from 9% to 17%).
Freezing the Front and Control Over Territories
Ukrainians remain resolute on the issue of territories currently under Kyiv's control: 66% categorically reject the possibility of their transfer to Russia. Only 18% of respondents acknowledge such an option.
Regarding the scenario of freezing the front line without official recognition of the annexation:
-
40% of respondents are ready to support such an approach (the figure increased from 35% in October);
-
50% are categorically against it (in October, 56% of respondents were against).
Note: Sociologists note that willingness to "freeze" has increased since autumn, but remains lower than the figures from May-June 2025.
Earlier, it was forecasted by Sky News, which described Ukraine's painful concessions for the sake of concluding a peace agreement.
These results indicate that the citizens of Ukraine, along with a high level of support for territorial integrity, are still experiencing uncertainty regarding further actions in the conflict. Time will tell how sentiments in society will change, as the situation remains complex and requires careful analysis.
