Ukraine managed to form a buffer zone on the territory of the Russian Federation — general.

Since May, the Russians have been trying to create a 'sanitary zone' in the Kharkiv region, but Ukrainian Defense Forces managed to create a buffer zone in the Russian Kursk region.

Currently, Ukrainian defenders are tasked with holding the occupied territory. At the same Time, Russian occupiers are transferring additional forces to the Kursk region, including elite units, said Lieutenant General Igor Romanenko, founder of the charity foundation 'Close the Sky of Ukraine', on the air of the FREEДОМ TV channel.

He explained that the Ukrainian military started the Kursk operation with 10-15 thousand servicemen.

'And here it makes sense to remind that the Russians used a 35-thousand group in the Kharkiv direction and passed 10 km. Since May, they have been trying to form a 'sanitary zone' there, as Putin wanted, but it hasn't worked out. And we - 15 thousand and 35-40 km along the front, in some places more than 40 km, and formed a buffer zone, which now, of course, must be held,' said Romanenko.

He noted that the forces in the Kursk region have changed - the Russian occupiers increased their group to 40 thousand people.

'A significant part, about 2/5, was transferred from the fronts, the rest were gathered, including elite units such as the Marine Corps and Airborne Forces, and parachute regiments, etc., were brought into Kursk. That is, they are forming a serious group, which allowed organizing counteroffensive actions a week ago. There were two strikes from the north on our group, particularly one on Snagost, where they went as deep as possible in the Glushkovo district. That is, they deblocked a corridor to supply the group, effectively surrounded by the Seym River. From the west, they delivered a third strike, from the southeast - a fourth. Our Defense Forces effectively responded to these strikes in the Glushkovo area, splitting the Russian group into two parts. Intense fighting continues,' reported the lieutenant general.

Romanenko noted that the Defense Forces are conducting maneuverable defense, which carries its own risks.

'The Russians managed to capture and even take a small number of our servicemen prisoner. Therefore, in the near future, the Russians, according to analysts' estimates, will need 80 to 120 thousand people, not only to stop our advance but also to push back to the borders,' he explained.

Meanwhile, the expert noted that Russian aviation is using KABs less in the Kursk region but using more military equipment.
