The Mining and Metallurgical Complex - A Path to Ukraine's Revival
The rector of one of the private mining and metallurgical universities, Metinvest Polytechnic, Oleksandr Povazhny, at the international conference 'Miningmetaltech 2024 - Mining and Metallurgical Complex: Integration of Business, Technologies, and Education', stated that this sector could become a symbol of Ukraine's revival through innovation and modernization.
More than 200 participants gathered at the event, including top managers from Metinvest, scientists from Ukraine and Bulgaria, as well as representatives from universities in Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Kryvyi Rih, Kremenchuk, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and other cities.
'The mining and metallurgical industry has always been a backbone of the economy, but today it has a chance to become a symbol of revival. It is not only the foundation of infrastructure but also one of the main export sectors, ensuring the economic stability of the state. I am confident that the combination of science, business, and education will create conditions for a successful future for Ukraine,' emphasized Oleksandr Povazhny.
The rector also highlighted the special role of education in the development of the mining and metallurgical complex and plans to prepare a new generation of specialists capable of implementing innovations and modernizing the industry.
'Metinvest Polytechnic is not just a university. It is supported by Metinvest and a forge of qualified engineers, who are so desperately needed in the labor market today,' said Tetyana Petruk, Director of Sustainable Development and Employee Engagement at Metinvest.
She also emphasized that the company is actively investing in education and training new specialists, as their shortage becomes a serious problem. Metinvest Polytechnic serves as an important institution that shapes highly qualified specialists who will strengthen the company's and the industry’s human resources.
One of the important topics of the conference was discussing the role of women in modern engineering. In Metinvest, women are taking positions that were previously considered male, and this figure is constantly increasing. Education must be flexible and adaptive to support anyone wishing to explore new opportunities.
Metinvest Polytechnic has existed for three years, and during this Time, over 1080 students have enrolled. This year, the university is opening undergraduate and master's programs for more than 200 students. The best students of the Metinvest group have the opportunity to secure their first job, career growth, and other advantages.
