Ukraine’s Air Defense Downs 97 of 119 Enemy Drones: Inside the Massive Attack.
Massive Drone Strike on Ukraine: June 17
According to UATV: On June 17, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine using 119 attack drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and decoy UAVs. The unmanned aircraft were deployed from multiple launch sites across Russia—Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, and Oryol—as well as from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, specifically from the area known as Chauda.
Outcome of the Attack
By 8:00 AM on June 17, Ukraine’s air defense systems had successfully intercepted 97 of the incoming drones. Despite this, 20 strike drones managed to hit 11 distinct locations. Additionally, debris from downed drones fell across six other sites, underscoring the serious threat this wave of attacks posed.
This incident highlights the ongoing aggression from the enemy and the critical role of Ukraine’s air defense in protecting the country from aerial threats. While Ukrainian forces performed effectively, the attack demonstrates that the danger from airborne strikes remains acute, and Ukraine must continue strengthening its defensive capabilities to safeguard national security.
