Ukraine's Drone Strikes: Reaching Far Beyond the Frontline

According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has disclosed the effectiveness of the country's drone fleet, noting that these unmanned aerial vehicles can now cover up to 3,000 kilometers to strike military targets inside Russia. Over the past week, Ukrainian drones hit several locations in occupied Crimea and within Russian borders, destroying important energy infrastructure assets. As part of its asymmetric warfare strategy, Ukraine has developed drones capable of reaching far beyond the front lines.

Recent Targets: Airbases, Radar Stations, and Oil Platforms

On July 27, 2023, an export terminal located roughly 250 kilometers from the front line near Rostov came under attack. The list of assets struck includes:

• Belbek and Saki airfields in Crimea;
• Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system;
• Pole-21 electronic warfare system;
• Grave Stone multi-purpose radar station in Rostov-on-Don;
• Filanovsky oil platform in the Caspian Sea.

Ukraine also plans to extend the range of its drones to 4,000 kilometers by the end of 2023 and to 10,000 kilometers by 2027, according to Zelenskyy. Analyst Konstantin Kryvolap remarked that "no more than 10-12 aircraft remain combat-ready," highlighting the significant impact of Ukrainian UAVs in defending national interests.

As a result, Ukrainian drones now play a pivotal role in contemporary military strategy, demonstrating their ability to reach distant targets and damage enemy military infrastructure.
